it’s Complicated
Writer/Directorย Nancy Meyersย (โSomethingโs Gotta Giveโ and โThe Holidayโ) has done it again. If you want total enjoyment from aย Romantic Comedy, go seeย itโs Complicated.ย ย Meyers directs superstarsย Meryl Streep, Steve Martin, andย Alec Baldwinย in this entertaining, adults go wild story about a divorcee who begins to start her life again when her youngest child leaves for college.
Streep (2 timeย Oscar Award winner) plays the divorcee, mother of three grown children, who owns a trendy Bakery/Restaurant. Her ex, Alec Baldwin (โ30 Rockโ and โMy Sisterโs Keeperโ 2009) having his own marital difficulties with his younger wife Agness, played by Lake Bell (โOver Her Dead Bodyโ 2008) decides to start a hot steamy affair with his ex-wife Jane (Streep). This reversal of roles is very amusing to Jane, who shares her feelings with good friends and confidants Trisha, Joanne, and Dianne; who include seasoned actressesย Rita Wilson,ย Mary Kay Place,ย andย Alexandra Wentworth.
The story heats up even more, when divorced Architect Adam (Steve Martin, โPink Panther 2′), who is remodeling Janeโs Kitchen, becomes aย romantic interest.
Add in the hilarious comedy ofย John Krasinskiย (โLicense to Wedโ 2007 โThe Holidayโ), who plays Harley, the oldest daughterโs fiancรฉ, who is the only family member to observe some of these antics and canโt tell anyone, and the fun really begins.
Watch โitโs Complicatedโ for an out loud laughing, enjoyable good time.
THE BLONDE: I LOVED, LOVED, LOVED, THISย HILARIOUSLYย FUNNY FILM! Every second was a blast. It was really like a party, watchingย it’s Complicated… I without a doubt, feel that this was the funniest film I have seen in 10 years. Bravo to all involved.ย I also, want to state, that I especially enjoy watching films thatย are based on a true story!
THE BRUNETTE: OK BLONDE! DARE I EVEN ASK BUT……This was not in any way a true story!ย What the heck are you talking about? The brilliantย Writer/Director Nancy Meyers,ย created thisย story from her own imagination.
THE BLONDE: Oh don’t be ridiculous! I didn’t mean the story was true, the truth is, it happened to me.
THE BRUNETTE: UH HUH, UH HUH, with which husband?
THE BLONDE:ย Not with a husband, with Steve Martin and I!
THE BRUNETTE: Ok, I’ll play along with this charade! The sex or the pot smoking?
THE BLONDE: Wouldn’t you like to know? But Condoms and Mary Jane were both involved!
THE BRUNETTE: Really, you are now going to imply that you smoke grass.
THE BLONDE: Don’t be insane, I was insinuating about my friend Mary Jane!!!!!
THE BRUNETTE: I deserve it! I was stupid to even ask!!! Moving right along…ย ย How many of us actually do go through theย empty nest syndrome?
THE BLONDE:ย Well, how the heck wouldย I know!!! For goodness sakes, I never even owned a bird andย furthermore I hate birds!!ย ย ย
THE BRUNETTE:ย Well, mightย I say that YOU DO HAVE a bird brain!ย
THE BLONDE: WHAT?ย ย ย
THE BRUNETTE: Anyway, it has been a while since a movie has addressed this topic of empty nest syndrome and it is important. Nice how they accomplished it in a comedic way though!
THE BLONDE: WHAT?
THE BRUNETTE:??????????ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย
THE BLONDE: I am still laughing after watching Steve Martin getting high in that one scene. He really pulled it off without ever overacting, which is in and of itself amazing… Still love you STEVIE, wink, wink!
THE BRUNETTE: You are still going to go withย that story about you and Steve Martin are you? About the film, I found myself laughing out loud so hard that I almost fell out of my chair.
THE BLONDE:ย I agree, I have never laughed this much in a theater. I know people were staring but I didn’t care… I must add that I am really not a fan ofย Alec Baldwin,ย but he really did pull it off for me in this film. He actually almost played himself in real life,ย but I will let that go…
THE BRUNETTE: John Krasinski who played Harley, played his character brilliantly. He had me laughing at his first hello.
THE BLONDE: I never heard him say hello, but I do think that he stole this film.ย Meryl, as always, seems to pull off an Oscar performance no matter what role she is portraying. Her timing is impeccable. Her sense of comedy, as well as drama, is unparalleled. She is, without a doubt, the greatest American actress of our time.
THE BRUNETTE: I liked the fact that this film and topic included the boomer babes. We are so often forgotten in today’s films.
THE BLONDE: We, what do you mean WE? Well, that is your thing. I am only concerned about the young people like myselfย in a filmโs story-line.
THE BRUNETTE:__________________________________________________
THE BLONDE: Hello, Brunette are you there?
THE BRUNETTE: Sorry, just resuscitating myself. That happens quite often when I hear a real solidย lie!
THE BLONDE: Another part of the film that was a gas was all the girlfriend scenes. Lots of fun.
THE BRUNETTE: The comradery was very authentic. So much so that all women will relate to this.
THE BLONDE: I love Nancy Myers.ย (Something’s Gotta Give, and The Holiday etc….)ย Her writing is so real and funny. She has the same edge and sense ofย comedy asย , whom I also adore.ย Nora Ephron
THE BRUNETTE: ย It’s hard to decide who is the better of the two. Let’s hear it for the girls!
THE BLONDE: I don’t get it. Do we have to decide, and hear what? Anyway, FUNNY, funny, as funny as it gets. The comedy of the year if not the decade. I rateย it’s Complicatedย an A+. RUN, TO SEE THIS HOLIDAY RELEASE.
THE BRUNETTE: WOW, HAVE I EVER HEARD AN A+ FROM YOU BEFORE?
THE BLONDE: WHAT?
THE BRUNETTE: I highly recommend this movie also.ย It willย make you forget all of your problems in this crazy world we are NOW living in… I too rate this movie an A….
THE BLONDE: IN A WORD, HYSTERICAL! Brunette how would you describe this film in one word?
THE BRUNETTE: OUCH!
THE BLONDE: WHAT?
THE BRUNETTE: My arm is now bruised from you hitting me every time you started to laugh hysterically.
THE BLONDE: MY BAD… HEY STEVIE WAIT UP!
THE BLONDE AND THE BRUNETTE: P. S. ย HAPPY HOLIDAY AND THE BEST 2010 TO ALL OF OUR LOYAL READERS… ROCK ON!
THE BRUNETTE: HO, HO, HO!
THE BLONDE: HEY, ARE YOU TALKIN TO ME?
