Herman’s Hermits and The Turtles brought back the Rockin 60’s at the Cannery Casino & Hotel…

The Cannery Casino & Hotel was honored to have two of the most popular bands from the ‘60s performing live and in person. Herman’s Hermits starring Peter Noone, and The Turtles featuring Flo and Eddie both wowed the eager and keyed up crowd for a one-night engagement on Saturday, September 26. The audience was clearly energized and wildly excited to be a part of these two groups’ incredible musical experience. Judging by my ringing ears by the end of the concert from all the screaming, they were not in any way let down!  OK, yes, I admit I was screaming too!!!!

The Turtles opened the evening. Few bands have achieved the legendary position and longevity that the Turtles have enjoyed. They played all of their hits that night. They left the crowd totally happy and complete from having the rare opportunity to hear all of their favorite Turtle songs. The Turtles performance was dead on and as awesome as they ever were. How can you not have a great time when you get to hear such great hits as only they could record and perform live, some of which are listed below.

The Turtles story began in an L.A. high school choir and eventually turned into one of the greatest success stories in rock ‘n’ roll history. In 1965, the band established itself as stars when their debut single, an arrangement of Bob Dylan’s “It Ain’t Me Babe,” reached the Billboard Top Five.  Other Turtles greats include “You Baby,” “She’d Rather Be With Me,” “She’s My Girl,” “Elenore,” “You Showed Me”, and, their signature song, “Happy Together”.

Rock on guys, we love thank you for your celebrated music.

    Then… Dant Dant Dan….

Herman’s Hermits electrified their fans at the Cannery Hotel. To begin with, they were as great and exciting as ever. The reality is that you just can’t fool your life long fans! They, without a doubt, expect the same sounds that they know and the group at its best, and they found it that night! They were totally thrilled hearing the group singing all of their legendary hits that they grew up with. They stood the entire time, danced, and sang along to the lyrics that have been engrained into their memory and hearts. Among the songs that they performed included: I’m Henry the VIII I Am, I’m Into Something Good, Mrs. Brown You’ve Got a Lovely Daughter, There’s a Kind of Hush, Silhouettes, Can’t You Hear My Heartbeat, Wonderful World, Sunshine Girl, Just a Little Bit Better, and This Door Swings Both Ways.

It’s funny, how one can forget just how many hits they actually had. Knowing and remembering these songs as many of us do, Herman’s Hermits sounded as good live as they do on their records.  I also would like to add, that Noone still has his boyish charms and young lad looks…

Herman’s Hermits was internationally successful. The 60’s British rock band, from Manchester, England, formed in 1963. Part of the British Invasion, their style was uncomplicated, non-threatening, with a clean-cut “boys next door” image that made them easier to listen to and more open than other British Invasion bands. Ultimately, Herman’s Hermits sold more than 60 million recordings, recorded 14 gold singles and seven gold albums, and were twice named Cashbox’s “Entertainer of the Year.” For a short time, the group rivaled the Beatles on the charts, and was the top-selling pop act in the U.S. in 1965.

The group was nominated for two Grammy awards in 1965, both for “Mrs. Brown, You’ve Got a Lovely Daughter.” According to Noone and Hopwood, the song was recorded as an afterthought in two takes, using two microphones, with Hopwood on guitar, Green on bass guitar, and Whitwam on drums. Noone and the band deliberately emphasized their English accents on the record, which was never intended to be a single.

Noone was born November 5, 1947. He has been delighting audiences nearly all his life, first as a child actor and later as the lead singer of the English rock band, Herman’s Hermits. He later starred in ABC’s The Canterville Ghost and played Pinocchio in the Hallmark Hall of Fame version of that story. His other TV credits include Married… with Children, Quantum Leap, My Two Dads, Dave’s World, Too Close for Comfort, Laverne & Shirley, and Easy Street. He has also enjoyed a recurring role on As the World Turns. Furthermore, he hosted VH1‘s My Generation and in March 2007, he appeared on the top-rated show, American Idol. The Hermits appeared in several movies, including ‘When The Boys Meet The Girls’ (1965) – and ‘Hold On!’ (1966). They also starred in the film ‘Mrs. Brown You’ve Got A Lovely Daughter’.

FYI Noone’s daughter Natalie, is an accomplished singer and songwriter.

Come back soon guys to Vegas, we love you. P.S. thank you for the music and keep on rockin’!!!!
