Savannah Goes to the Dogs for Wag-O-Ween 2025
By Kelly Gian
Savannah, Georgia once again turned into a paradise for pups and their people as Wag-O-Ween 2025 brought thousands of costumed canines and their companions to town for a weekend of fun, fur, and festivities. The event took place on October 25 and 26, transforming parks, shops, and cobblestone streets across the city into a four-legged Halloween celebration filled with laughter, creativity, and community spirit.
I attended the event for both days with my two dogs, Optimus Prime, a white Shih Tzu, and Juliet, a sandy-colored Morkie (Maltese–Yorkie mix) who weighs in at a dainty five pounds. Juliet turned heads everywhere she went in her adorable Nurse Ratched costume, while Optimus Prime played her loyal “Bat Assistant” sidekick. I joined in on the theme, dressing as Patient Number Nine—complete with a white T-shirt, a blood IV prop, and eerie horror-style makeup. Together, we made quite the spooky trio roaming through the festivities.
The weekend was packed with excitement. Dogs of every size and breed strutted their stuff in costume contests, while races for both dogs and kids added a playful burst of energy to the event. Vendors filled the park with booths offering pet products, treats, and accessories, and local businesses joined the fun by providing special discounts for dogs in costume.
One of the highlights for humans was the booth serving wine and sangria mixed slushes in plastic IV-style bags—a clever and spooky twist that fit the Halloween theme perfectly. I tried the mixed berry flavor, and wow—what a delightful treat for the grown-ups!
Another great feature was the official Wag-O-Ween map, which guided visitors to all the participating stores and restaurants around Savannah that offered free dog treats, discounts, and special perks for costumed pups. It was a wonderful way to explore the city and discover new dog-friendly spots.
I also want to give a special shout-out to local photographer John Stone, who captured amazing photos of many of the dog families in their Halloween costumes throughout the event. His work truly showcased the spirit, color, and joy that make Wag-O-Ween so special.
After two full days of tail-wagging adventure, Optimus Prime, Juliet, and I headed home tired but happy, already thinking about next year’s costumes. Wag-O-Ween 2025 was more than just a celebration of pets—it was a celebration of the bond that makes life with them so special.
