In the eternal city of ancient Rome lies a first class sparkling treasure. Clearly, there is no shortage of five-star hotels in the global town of Rome. However, for me, there is only one and that’s the Hotel Splendide Royal. You don’t have to literally be royalty to stay in the palace, but you will no doubt feel as though you are. Nevertheless, I was on the lookout at all times for my Prince Charming and or my Knight-in-Shining-Armor.
As I approached the hotel, the doormen greeted me at once with a welcoming smile and a much needed helping hand.
Then, upon walking through its doors, I entered into a magical world of wonder and storybook beauty. My jaw dropped open when I gazed at the marble entrance that leads into the golden ornate lobby, adorned with old-world elegance, class and opulence. Simply stunning!
This glorious, Hotel Splendide Royal in Rome is a luxury five-star hotel. It boasts the perfect position right in the heart of the eternal city. It is just minutes away from most of Rome’s historic highlights, including a spectacular view overlooking the beautiful gardens of Villa Broghese and the Spanish steps. The hotel has been entirely refurbished. This Palace, from the late 19th century combines lavish beauty with baroque decorative features.
All of the marble and Murano glass accents add to the refinement and ambiance of its unparalleled elegance and grace that creates a totally chic atmosphere.
Staying at Hotel Splendide Royal ensures majestic luxury and sophistication in the most authentic and aristocratic district of Rome. It sits between Via Veneto and Villa Borghese.
I found it fascinating that I could almost feel occurrences from long ago without losing any of the comforts of the today’s modern technology. I smiled as I could hear and see in my imagination the tales of former glory that capture the atmosphere created by the famous celebrities and film stars that the Hotel Splendide Royal has always accommodated within its esteemed walls. I can clearly understand why the rich and famous would feel right at home here, as did I! Although tastefully elaborate, I always felt warm and cozy during my stay.
This intimate, and extraordinary charming hotel used to be a beautiful palazzo, (palace) so the buildings décor and design are quite ornate and beautiful. In addition, it is one of the most accredited hotels in Europe. Hotel Splendide Royal Rome is a member of the Small Luxury Hotels of the World. With its fierce reputation for exclusivity and excellence, they have been awarded with a Michelin star.
Recently described as Splendide by guests themselves, the hotel is purely “tout court,” and beaming with friendliness, kindness and hospitality.
Breakfast at the Crystal Lounge
As the hotel is located in the Via Veneto district, set on a hilltop, it sports an enormous awe-inspiring panorama, which sweeps across the city with views including Villa Borghese Park, Trinità dei Monti and St. Peter’s Basilica.
I, myself, marveled each day with amazement during breakfast. Gazing out over the ancient city, I felt truly privileged experiencing this whole scene. I found it all quite astonishing, really.
In the restaurant, there is a clever play of mirrors producing delightful reflections of great picture- perfect loveliness. This is a most charming setting in which to start the day while enjoying the spectacular Mirabelle breakfast feast.
The buffet is enormous and includes every breakfast item under the sun, excluding none. Not only worth every calorie, but delectable as well. This will be a forever food memory in my mind. Kudos and appreciation to Alessandra Matone, the gorgeous and stellar professional, that ensured breakfast perfection every day.
At Mirabelle, my eyes and taste buds were equally enchanted. This dazzling restaurant is a foodies dream come true.
I enjoyed an amazing culinary explosion of deliciousness to my palate and a complete sensorial experience.
Between the exquisite delectable foods, the magnificent looking presentations, and the brilliantly creative Executive Chef Stefano Marzetti, (pictured below wearing chefs hat) serving the finest freshseasonal ingredients, dining at Mirabelle is absolutely magical.
Thanks to the charm, professionalism and precision of Luca Costanzi , the restaurant’s manager and PrimoMaître D’Hôtel(pictured above on the left all the way to the right) the Mirabelle restaurant remains flawless, and runs like clockwork year round. Bravo Luca!
The service is nothing short of impeccable as the experienced servers dance around the tables with quiet refinement and exceptional skill.
Also, on the team, working in impeccable concert, is the dashing Matteo Marsini in the sales and marketing department, as well asThe Maître D’Hôtel, Andrea Migliaccio Spina with his very, “007” elegance. (Also pictured above to the right, along with guest chef, Felix Lobasso.)
You can either dine at the restaurant, or simply enjoy watching the sunset for a wonderful and realaxing aperitif. Nice to stop and smell the roses now and again. Like they say in Italy, “Dolce far Niente!” The sweetness of doing nothing. We all can learn a thing or two (or thousand) from the peole of this phenominal country.
I actually recommend doing both. After drinks you are now ready to have one of the most memorable dinning experiences you will ever have. Trust me… I know, for I do this for a living.
You can start off with any of the scrumptious appitizers. I suggest everything! However, I munched on the totally yummy Risotto with duck confit, rhubarb, watercress and foie gras shavings pictured above. Or, the extra–crispy tossed Risotto Milanese style wild asparagus nest and creamy Parmesan cheese.
As you are in Italy, you might want to go with the Spaghettettoni pasta with trapani pesto sauce, artichokes, broad beans, pork cheek and Roman Pecorino cheese.
Or perchance, order an array of sample appitizers and vegetables by request!
I proceeded onward to the tasty Sea Bass in salt crust and the tender Beef Fillet Heritage.(see below) It’s amazing what this imaginative Chef Stefano Marzetti does with food. It is all so very luscious!
You simply cannot go wrong at Mirebelle, as everything will be the ‘Best of the Best’ that you have ever tasted, or should I say devoured.
The Mirabelle American Bar is sophisticated and refined, yet comfortable and relaxed. Here is where you can enjoy a cocktail and unwind from your busy day roaming around on your Roman escapades.
After dinner, I thoroughly enjoyed listening to the talented and romantic singer, Francesco Illiano (https://youtu.be/gLW_17qc7Os), sipping a wonderful glass of Sambuca with coffee beans and dessert.
From Mirabelle’s astonishing gorgeous terrace with its stunning views through the immense windows showing breathtaking views of Rome, to its gourmet creations and delights, this is a dining experience not to be missed! It is dining perfection that is always consistent.
To be perfectly honest, Mirabelle is my favorite restaurant in all of Rome and most likely in the entire world.
I forever dream of returning…

Belonging to a prestigious hotel chain like the Roberto Naldi Collection is a true honor. Managing the Splendide Royal hotel in Rome, is a prestigious task to which I dedicate all my energy. I expect 100% dedication from myself, first and foremost and then from all the members of the team I lead.”
Your Goals Are Wonderfully Accomplished Mr. Grigio !
Every room in the hotel is bursting with warmth and the perfect fusion of antique details and modern necessities for each guest’s own personal wellbeing. In each guest room, there is evidence of the gorgeous beauty, from days gone by, which are evident in the vintage furniture and wood paneling. The bed and fine bedding in my room was mind-blowing and extravagant. I slept like a baby. I experienced truly unforgettable sleep in this luxurious and comfortable surrounding. Furthermore, the amenities and toiletry products (made in Florence) were first class and quite opulent.
At the Hotel Splendide Royal, there are 68 soundproofed rooms provided with minibars, free newspapers, and safes. There is complimentary WiFi and LED TVs with satellite channels and pay movies. Bathrooms offer hair dryers, bathrobes, and slippers. Other standard amenities include phones and desks. Nearly all of the rooms have large marble bathrooms with the perfect natural light source and have large terraces with sweeping views over the city and the gardens of Villa Borghese. There are several categories of rooms at the hotel…
FYI, I worked out at the gym and afterwards I was able to enjoy some quiet time at the rooftop terrace. Also, the 24-hour front desk has multilingual staff ready to assist with dry cleaning/laundry, tours or tickets and luggage storage. I know I certainly kept them busy! Other amenities at this wonderful hotel include a business center and coffee/tea in a common area.
In my opinion, the ‘Splendide Royal Hotel,’ symbolizes its own rare brand of unique luxury and style. I was surrounded by all the comforts of my own home even though I was travelling. That alone is remarkable. This organization, understand their guest’s desires, wants, needs, demands and even anticipates them without anything being said. For instance, I always received a warm smile, a Buongiorno or Buonasera greeting, genuine caring, a supportive suggestion, and a helping hand at just the exact moment I needed it. These simple touches are an integral part of the Splendide Royal Roma, that make it one of the most sought-after hotels of the Eternal City.”
I realize, of course, that my entire review of the Hotel Splendide Royal is entirely-over-the-top with praise.
However, it is not exaggerated and is precisely the only accurate way to write it. This is factually one of the most spectacular hotels in the world and merits every bit of praise.
The Splendide Royal is quite splendid, indeed!

WHILE STAYING AT HOTEL SPLENDIDE ROYAL
Rome. . . The Ancient Eternal City
Rome, Italy’s capital is a sprawling, international city with nearly 3,000 years of globally influential art, architecture and culture on display. Countless ancient ruins arouse the supremacy of the former Roman Empire. Vatican City, headquarters of the Roman Catholic Church, has St. Peter’s Basilica and the Vatican Museums, which house masterpieces such as Michelangelo’s Sistine Chapel frescoes. A must see while in Rome. Other attractions of note:

THE BIG TOUR BUS - This is the absolute best way to see the city of Rome. You can hop-on-hop-off, as much as you like to visit all the attractions.I suggest purchasing a 2-day pass. On the first day, stay on the bus for the full hour and a half. You will get to see a glimpse of the whole city that way. You’ll receive an ear piece to plug in, which enables its guests to hear any language necessary. This recording is syncrinized with the bus and explains everything you are seeing as the bus drives along. You will also receive a brochure with all important information on the city and the bus. This brochure has a map of Rome and the times and places that the bus stops. The company also includes with all tickets a free walking tour and free Wifi on-board.
The Big Bus Tour staff are friendly and quite helpful.
This is a city that I absolutely recommend taking this Bus Tour.
P.S. you will get the opportunity to snap some great photos if you sit on the top deck.

Here is where you’ll get to see the entire awesome view of Rome… It is essential to make your way to the very, very top where the angel stands. Do stay a while, after taking in the miraculous view, and have an aperitif and watch the sunset here. Truly memorable!PIAZZA NAVONARESTAURANTE IN PIAZZA NAVONA”4 Fiume” - I don’t typically like eating or drinking at tourist restaurants located near tourist attractions. I normally keep an eye out for the locals and see where they are eating. However, I love the Piazzo Navona area. Fortunately, I found the best restaurant, where the food is fresh; to-die-for terrific and the prices are wonderful… Restaurante, “4 Fiumi”
The owner Umberto (and do say hello for me) and the whole staff are amazing, friendly and fun to talk with. I promise, that you will never be rushed.
You will be sitting at the best spot in the heart of the Piazzo Navona action, while sipping on a glass of wine or the famous Spritz and eating anything and everything on the menu.“Visions from my table at ” 4 Fiume”Trevi Fountain and Piazza di Spangna (Spanish Steps)
